In the US, Wizkid and Rema’s record tie has been broken by CKay’s viral hit song “Love Nwantiti.”

The popular song “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)” by Nigerian musician CKay has officially become the highest-certified African song in the history of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), according to a recent release. One of the most popular songs to come out of Africa in recent years, the song has achieved an astounding 8x Platinum certification.

With this certification, “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)” surpasses two other noteworthy songs, “Essence” by WizKid and “Calm Down” by Rema, which previously held the record for the highest-certified African song in RIAA history.

About a year after the song became four times platinum, CKay reaches yet another significant milestone. The song was initially published in 2019 as a part of CKay’s second EP, CKay the First, but it wasn’t until 2021—following worldwide chart-topping success—that it truly launched the singer to popularity on a global scale.

With the song’s debut on the Billboard Global 200 list, he became the first Nigerian to achieve one billion Spotify plays. The song “Love Nwantiti” was also Shazam’s longest-running worldwide No. 1 hit in 2021.

Since its release, other musicians have remixed the hit song, including US artist De La Ghetto, Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene, Moroccan rapper ElGrandeToto, and fellow Nigerian singer Joeboy.

In addition to receiving millions of plays across several music platforms since its release in 2020, “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)” has broken other records in the four years since its release.

Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)” has been streamed over 1.2 billion times or sold over eight million copies to get an 8x Platinum certification.
